\nThis painted pottery cylinder jar dates back roughly 5,500 years to the Hongshan Culture. It was discovered in the Aru Horqin Banner area of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia.What makes it special is not simply its shape, but the fact that one single vessel brings together cultural elements from different regions.

\nThe diamond grid pattern at the top is believed to show Central Asian cultural influence. This suggests that, around 5,500 years ago, the communities of western Liaoning may already have been connected to much more distant regions.
